Articulation Practice Videos: Quick At-Home Speech Practice

3 min read

We know that consistent practice is one of the most important factors in speech therapy progress. That is why Kansas City Speech Professionals has created a series of quick, easy-to-follow articulation practice videos available on our Facebook page. Each video is approximately five minutes long and designed to make at-home practice simple, effective, and even fun.

Why At-Home Practice Matters

Speech therapy sessions provide the foundation --- the instruction, the modeling, the feedback. But the real gains happen when clients practice consistently between sessions. Think of it like learning a musical instrument: the lesson teaches you what to do, but the daily practice is what builds the skill.

For children working on articulation goals, regular practice helps:

  • Build muscle memory for correct sound production
  • Increase accuracy from isolated sounds to connected speech
  • Accelerate progress toward therapy goals
  • Maintain skills between therapy sessions
  • Build confidence as sounds become more natural

What the Videos Include

Our articulation practice videos are designed to be used independently by parents and children at home. Each video focuses on a specific sound or sound pattern and walks through structured practice at various levels:

  • Isolation: Producing the target sound by itself
  • Syllables: Combining the target sound with vowels
  • Words: Practicing the sound in the beginning, middle, and end of words
  • Phrases and sentences: Using the target sound in longer utterances

The videos provide clear models of correct production, visual cues, and plenty of opportunities for your child to practice along. They are designed to be engaging for young children while still following the structured approach used in clinical therapy sessions.

How to Use the Videos

Getting started is simple:

  1. Visit the Kansas City Speech Professionals Facebook page
  2. Find the video that targets your child’s specific sound
  3. Set aside about five minutes in a quiet space
  4. Watch the video together and practice along
  5. Celebrate your child’s effort and progress

We recommend practicing at least three to four times per week for the best results. Many families find it helpful to build practice into their daily routine --- after breakfast, before bedtime, or as a break between other activities.

A Resource for Challenging Times

We originally created these videos during the COVID-19 pandemic when many families found themselves at home and looking for ways to continue their child’s speech therapy progress. While the circumstances have changed, the videos remain a valuable resource for any family looking to supplement therapy with structured at-home practice.

Whether your child is currently enrolled in speech therapy or you are simply looking for ways to support their speech development, these videos offer a free, accessible, and clinician-designed resource.
