Adults and Dyslexia
Can adults get tested for dyslexia? The answer is, YES!
Why might an adult want to be tested? Here are some common reasons:
Testing accommodations to return to school. This might include the MCAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, SAT, national boards, etc.
Testing accommodations to further your career growth. This might include certificates/certifications, continuing education, etc.
School accommodations once you are admitted. These accommodations could include extended time, dictation software, text-to-speech software, among many others.
An answer to why you always struggled in school with reading, spelling, or writing but still managed to get straight A's and pass, even though you spent twice as long on your homework than anyone else.
If you don't need any of those accommodations, is it really worth it? YES!
You can always improve your reading/spelling skills. Sometimes all it takes is some direct instruction on the skills you either were never taught or never understood in school. Reading is a part of our everyday lives, especially with the increase in email and text communication. If you love (or even hate reading) and want to make it easier, consider digging deeper into what is making it difficult and how you can receive some help.
